I was told that changing the oil pan gasket on a 1999 ford ranger is very difficult. Any ideas?

The difficulty level varies depending on the engine/drivetrain combinations. By the book it’s between 4.5 and 8 hours, depending on the engine size, trans type, 2WD, 4WD, etc..

The hardest one listed looks like the 2.5 liter, with standard trans, and air conditioning. That one calls for 8 hours labor, which includes remove & install engine assembly and recover, evacuate, and recharge air conditioning.

Most call for either R&I of engine, transmission, or front axle. I wouldn’t put any of them in the easy catagory.

Hope that helps,

Thanks CJB. I was afraid you would answer this way. I was hoping to drop the pan down about 1&1/2 inches. and slid a new gasket in. If that doesn’t work I don’t think I should attempt the engine R&I.
