An easy way to test an electric fuel pump circuit is to unplug the external harness from the suspected bad fuel pump and connect a sealed beam headlamp to the circuit.
Why use a headlamp?
Sealed bead headlamp bulbs have a similar current draw as an electric fuel pump. This test helps ensure the circuit is not at fault and can carry the required load. The headlamp also provides visual confirmation which can be helpful when lacking a helper.
Sealed beam headlamps which are manufactured out of plastic are best to use since they are not as fragile.
Do not attempt this test if the fuel system has been opened or there any fuel vapors present.
